- Pediatric Specialty Care
In addition to our primary care pediatricians, TBHC has a broad range of pediatric specialists to consult when a child may need a pediatrician who has a specialty in a particular area or system of the body. These specialists work with our primary care pediatricians or referring pediatricians when necessary. Most of them see patients at the Physicians Pavilion, though some are located at the Children's Health Center.
Cardiology (heart), which provides comprehensive care to pediatric patients of all ages from the fetus to adolescents. Our cardiologists handle a variety of complaints from murmur and chest pain to arrhythmia and congenital heart disease. Testing includes:
Child Abuse Advocacy through Safe Horizons and via referral.
Dentistry, services include fillings, sealants, braces, surgery for tumors, deformities, fractures, trauma of the jaw and facial bones, and cleft lip and palate, as well as care for children with disabilities.
Endocrinology, which provides care for hormonal disorders such as diabetes, growth, thyroid, adrenal, pituitary, puberty, calcium and bone disorders. Diabetes care encompasses both type 1 and 2 diabetes and includes managing the care of pediatric patients using an insulin pump.
Gastroenterology, which consults on patients with the full spectrum of gastrointestinal, hepatic and nutritional disorders and works closely with the pediatric nutritionist.
Hematology and Oncology, which provides a variety of service for blood disorders, including an infusion center, as well as the diagnosis of pediatric cancers. Our specialists also work with the oncology department at Mount Sinai Hospital for the management of our pediatric cancer patients. Additionally, TBHC treats many sickle cell patients with a broad range of services.
HIV/AIDS, which provides primary care for children and adolescents through our PATH Centers.
Nephrology, which provides care for the entire spectrum of kidney disease and hypertension from newborns to young adults. The Pediatric Lupus Center works closely with the pediatric rheumatology section to better care for patients with this disorder.
Neurology, which covers all issues from seizures, headache, developmental delays, tics and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) to childhood strokes and the neuro-cognitive issues related to sickle cell disease. Electrical brain activity tests (EEG and VEEG) are available and read by an epileptologist, a neurologist who specializes in the treatment of epilepsy.
Nutrition, which provides medical nutrition therapy at both the Children’s Health Center and the Pediatric Specialty Clinic, and includes nutritional assessment, counseling and education to children with nutrition-related medical problems, including obesity, underweight, diabetes, pre-diabetes, hyperlipidemia, fatty liver, celiac disease, multiple food allergies, seizures, and other nutritional-related diseases and conditions.
Pulmonary, which focuses mainly on asthma, but also provides a full range of diagnostic services.

The Pediatric Lupus Center works closely with the pediatric nephrology section to better care for patients with this disorder.
Surgery, which provides a full range of pediatric surgical services including neonatal and general pediatric surgery, childhood tumors, head and neck, urological issues (circumcision, undescended testes), hernias, abscesses (including pilonidal sinus), endocrine, thoracic, and gastrointestinal pediatric surgery (esophageal, stomach and bowel surgeries; and bronchoscopy and esophagoscopy for foreign bodies).
