Director of Nursing, Perioperative Services

The Brooklyn Hospital Center performs approximately 9,100 surgical procedures annually, relying on a team of highly trained, highly efficient perioperative nurses. These nurses provide comprehensive care to patients before, during and after their surgeries. This remarkable team provides care in these areas:

  • Surgical Scheduling: This area is dedicated to booking and scheduling surgical cases.
  • Pre-Surgical Testing (PST): Here, patients are assessed and receive medical clearance prior to their day of surgery.
  • Ambulatory Day Surgery: On the day of surgery, perioperative nurses perform preoperative assessments and prepare patients for surgery.
  • Main Operating Room (OR)/Cystoscopy/Endoscopy: The facility is equipped with eight operating rooms, three cystoscopy rooms and three endoscopy rooms.
  • Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU): This is a 13-bay recovery area that cares for both inpatient and ambulatory surgical patients.
  • Central Sterile: This department is responsible for all decontamination, processing and sterilization of surgical instrumentation and select implants.

The director oversees 125 staff members who perform these 9,100 cases annually. Perioperative services offers services in general, urology, gynecology, plastic, podiatry, orthopedic, robotic, bariatric, neurology, thoracic and ENT surgeries. Perioperative Services is renowned for exceptional care, as demonstrated by the most recent 96.6 percent Overall Assessment score by the Press Ganey Survey Results.
