Program Requirements for Graduation from the General Practice Residency Program
- Familiar with history and physical examinations
- Exhibit proper documentation principles
- Ability to read and present journal articles critically
- Proficient in case presentation/journal club presentations
- Research paper
- Ability to write pre-op, post-op orders and daily hospital notes
- Ability to write consultation notes
- Management of the developmentally disabled patient
- Ability to explain the differential diagnosis in oral pathology and oral medicine
- Management of oral lesions
- Proficient in pain control and assessment
- Proficient in providing endodontic therapy
- Proficient in rotary endodontics
- Proficient in fixed prosthodontics (crown & bridge)
- Proficient in restorative implantology
- Proficient in overdentures
- Proficient in removable prosthodontics
- Proficient in operative dentistry
- Proficient in management of the pediatric patient
- Proficient in periodontal diagnosis
- Experience placement of orthodontic bands and brackets
- Proficient in simple extractions and experience in surgical extractions
- Treatment of avulsed and displaced teeth
- Familiar with open flap procedures
- Familiar with simple intra-oral incision and drainage
- Familiar with simple laceration repairs
- Familiar with TMD/TMJ diagnosis and conservative management
- Familiar with myofascial pain disorders and treatment
- Knowledgeable in JCAHO requirements, Quality Care Initiative and hospital credentialing
- OR techniques and protocols
Program Requirements for Graduation from the Oral Surgery Residency Program
- Administration of 300 general anesthesia/deep sedation cases
- 50 of the 300 sedation cases must be on patients younger than age 13
- Completion of 20 weeks of rotation to Department of Anesthesia
- Completion of 8 weeks of rotation to Family Medicine
- Completion of 16 weeks of rotation to Department of General Surgery
- Completion of 4 weeks of rotation to Surgical Intensive Care Unit
- Completion of 4 weeks of ENT/plastic surgery service
- Completion of 175 major surgical procedures
- Completion of ACLS, PALS, ATLS, BLS courses
- Completion of 20 procedures:
- Trauma
- Pathology
- Orthognathic surgery
- Reconstructive and cosmetic surgery
- Publication/presentations of book chapter, journal article/abstract
