The Brooklyn Hospital Center Breaks Ground on State-of-the-Art Emergency Department

State Assemblyman Walter Mosley joined the hospital for the important milestone
On July 10, Gary G. Terrinoni, President and CEO of The Brooklyn Hospital Center (TBHC), along with invited dignitaries and community partners, officially broke ground on the Emergency Department renovation project. The project was, in part, funded by a New York State Department of Health Transformation Grant of $25 million, the largest award for any New York City health provider in the year that it was granted. This renovation will revolutionize the hospital’s response to traumatic injury and illness. “We already serve more than 70,000 patients each year in our Emergency Department,” notes Terrinoni. “This renovation will result in a state-of-the-art facility within lifesaving minutes of our neighbors’ homes.”
State Assemblyman Walter Mosley joined the festivities as well. He noted that he and his family use the hospital, including the emergency room, and how important the collaboration between the community, the hospital and elected officials was. “The Brooklyn Hospital Center is my hospital and I’m proud of that,” he said.
The renovation will create bright, airy spaces that accommodate new waiting areas, including those specifically for results. The entrance to the ED will be through a newly renovated hospital lobby that will be transparent and welcoming with direct access to the triage rooms. Quick registration will be used to accelerate patient flow to treatment. There will be a new triage, exam and treatment rooms, including a rapid assessment treatment area, and bariatric, psychiatric observation, cardiac treatment and bereavement rooms. Better space and flow for support services such as a radiology room, CT scan room, satellite pharmacy and discharge room will also be included.
