Program Requirements for Graduation from the General Practice Residency Program

  1. Familiar with history and physical examinations
  2. Exhibit proper documentation principles
  3. Ability to read and present journal articles critically
  4. Proficient in case presentation/journal club presentations
  5. Research paper
  6. Ability to write pre-op, post-op orders and daily hospital notes
  7. Ability to write consultation notes
  8. Management of the developmentally disabled patient
  9. Ability to explain the differential diagnosis in oral pathology and oral medicine
  10. Management of oral lesions
  11. Proficient in pain control and assessment
  12. Proficient in providing endodontic therapy
  13. Proficient in rotary endodontics
  14. Proficient in fixed prosthodontics (crown & bridge)
  15. Proficient in restorative implantology
  16. Proficient in overdentures
  17. Proficient in removable prosthodontics
  18. Proficient in operative dentistry
  19. Proficient in management of the pediatric patient
  20. Proficient in periodontal diagnosis
  21. Experience placement of orthodontic bands and brackets
  22. Proficient in simple extractions and experience in surgical extractions
  23. Treatment of avulsed and displaced teeth
  24. Familiar with open flap procedures
  25. Familiar with simple intra-oral incision and drainage
  26. Familiar with simple laceration repairs
  27. Familiar with TMD/TMJ diagnosis and conservative management
  28. Familiar with myofascial pain disorders and treatment
  29. Knowledgeable in JCAHO requirements, Quality Care Initiative and hospital credentialing
  30. OR techniques and protocols

Program Requirements for Graduation from the Oral Surgery Residency Program

  1. Administration of 300 general anesthesia/deep sedation cases
  2. 50 of the 300 sedation cases must be on patients younger than age 13
  3. Completion of 20 weeks of rotation to Department of Anesthesia
  4. Completion of 8 weeks of rotation to Family Medicine
  5. Completion of 16 weeks of rotation to Department of General Surgery
  6. Completion of 4 weeks of rotation to Surgical Intensive Care Unit
  7. Completion of 4 weeks of ENT/plastic surgery service
  8. Completion of 175 major surgical procedures
  9. Completion of ACLS, PALS, ATLS, BLS courses
  10. Completion of 20 procedures:
    1. Trauma
    2. Pathology
    3. Orthognathic surgery
    4. Reconstructive and cosmetic surgery
  11. Publication/presentations of book chapter, journal article/abstract
