Pediatric Inpatient Care
Pediatric Care in Brooklyn, NY
TBHC offers a full range of inpatient care for children recovering from surgery or managing chronic illness. Our nursing staff and hospital physicians are caring and compassionate. Additionally, Child Life specialists, who are trained in child development and in meeting the special needs of children who are ill and hospitalized, provide healing comfort in our playroom and at bedside.
Pediatric Intensive Care (PICU)
TBHC offers the most comprehensive pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) services available anywhere in Brooklyn. Our recently renovated and modernized six-bed PICU offers a compassionate and comfortable setting for pediatric patients and their parents, along with top-quality technology. Our specially trained physicians, nurses and staff provide a caring environment for children requiring advanced medical services. We offer accommodations for parents and family members who wish to extend their visits.
Our PICU team is composed of clinicians who are equipped to treat a wide range of pediatric conditions, including specialists in cardiology (heart); endocrinology (hormonal system and diabetes care); gastroenterology (digestive system); hematology/oncology (blood conditions, including sickle cell anemia and cancer care); neurology (brain and nervous system); oral and maxillofacial surgery; and respiratory support and high-frequency oscillatory ventilation surgery.
Inpatient Unit 5W
Our general pediatric unit provides cares for patients from a few days of life up until 21 years old. We care for a wide variety of medical conditions from acute to chronic and have a large comprehensive group of subspecialists available for consultations. A majority of our rooms are private and parents are provided with overnight bedding. Our physicians and nurses are pediatric-trained and work with our Child Life staff to make a patient and their family’s stay as pleasant as possible.
Intensive care refers to special medical treatment of patients who require the highest level of medical services and constant monitoring. At TBHC, we offer a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU, see above) and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU, see below).
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
For those children and their parents undergoing premature delivery, TBHC’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is more than just an expert care provider; it's a second home.We believe patient care must be family-centered and holistic. That means making sure parents, grandparents and siblings are cared for even as we treat the premature baby.
TBHC’s NICU is a Level-3 perinatal care center. This special recognition is provided by the New York State Department of Health and is awarded to select hospitals that meet the criteria of offering care for the most complex newborn conditions in a caring and supportive environment. Premature babies, especially those born under three pounds, require the technological resources and expertise available only found in a Level-3 NICU. With cutting-edge equipment, fellowship-trained physicians and a specialized nursing staff, our NICU team offers the best and reliable care available for premature babies.
Newborn Nursery
As part of our pediatric service, TBHC has a newborn nursery.
