Toys and games are crucial for helping children cope with medical procedures, physicians' office visits, and hospital stays. Play becomes a valuable and safe outlet for expressing feelings. Imagine being admitted to the hospital for one week out of every month. When children are diagnosed with cancer or a serious blood disorder it can be a full time job. Sometimes these children require monthly, weekly or even daily visits to the hospital. These children endure frequent blood tests and invasive procedures. Each blood test or procedure is mitigated by a small prize. Most children who are crying from pain are able to smile when they are given a small toy.
The older children use videos, DVDs and computer games to distract themselves and pass the time.
Your gift to “Auntie Lu’s Toy Box” will keep a child occupied and happy during a turbulent time in his or her life. Toys must be brand new and should not be gift wrapped. Monetary donations also will help us purchase additional gifts for our very special children. With your financial help, we will be also able to supply a full scope of services to relieve families’ emotional and financial stress, from a simple cup of coffee, to lounge chairs, to family counseling and more.
