The PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program has been training post-graduate pharmacists to the highest levels of general pharmacy practice since 2004. Five Pharmacy Residents will spend an intense year working with the best pharmacotherapists, pharmacists, pharmacy managers and physicians to collaboratively care for the diverse patient population of Downtown Brooklyn, New York.
Each resident will be responsible for responding to cardiac arrest, pediatric emergencies and trauma calls within the institution. Each resident will be on-call for 24 hours approximately once per week to respond to these emergencies, as well as to provide drug information, toxicology consultation, pharmacokinetic dosing recommendations and medication counseling upon patients discharging from the hospital. Residents will also participate in antimicrobial management team and asthma stewardship program.
Each resident will also design and implement a research project during the one-year program. The design of this project and the results will be presented at major pharmacy meetings, locally and nationally.
In addition, residents have the opportunity to precept entry-level Doctor of Pharmacy students on clinical rotations and to teach a variety of laboratory and recitation courses at the College of Pharmacy.
Residents are eligible to receive a competitive salary and benefits package, including vacation leave, sick leave, medical and dental insurance and a travel allowance for professional meetings.
Residency experiences are intended to prepare the graduate to function as a pharmacotherapist within the typical health-system.
