The Brooklyn Hospital Center 's Department of Public Affairs is available to assist local, regional, national and international news media in answering medical related questions, locating an expert spokesperson and obtaining more information about a news release or event.

To effectively welcome the media to The Brooklyn Hospital Center and to arrange interviews, videotape sessions, or photo opportunities, please follow the established guidelines posted below:

  • Please call Public Affairs to arrange all interviews or background conversations with any member of The Brooklyn Hospital staff. Public Affairs tracks all inquiries from the media, and when appropriate, can provide additional or more appropriate sources for your story.
  • Reporters must identify The Brooklyn Hospital Center's staff by their THBC title in stories related to the staff member's work or role at TBHC .
  • Reporters are asked to use the complete name of the institution, The Brooklyn Hospital Center, when referring to it in a print or broadcast story.
  • Advance notice of on-site interviews is necessary so Public Affairs staff can arrange for a room for media interviews or shoots, notify the patient care areas involved, and line up the appropriate patients, families, and TBHC staff for your story.
  • To protect the privacy of all other Brooklyn Hospital Center 's patients and families, Public Affairs must accompany all reporters, film crews and photographers on the TBHC campus or at any of the offsite campuses.
  • Under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996, no information other than a one-word condition on a patient's medical status is made available to any member of the media unless/until Public Affairs receives written authorization from a patient`s parent or guardian. Patient conditions are defined as follows:
Good - Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Expected outcome is excellent.

Fair - Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is responding to treatment. Expected outcome is favorable.

Serious - Vital signs are stable at present. Patient is acutely ill. Expected outcome is unpredictable.

Critical - Vital signs are unstable. Expected outcome is unpredictable.
