Hello! Bonjour! Ciao! Hola!

The staff of the Department of Nursing as part of the Patient Care Services provides nursing care along the life spectrum. The culturally diverse composition of the nursing staff enables us to better serve our community. With approximately 600 registered nurses, 20 LPNs, 200 Nursing Technicians and 80 Clerical Service Associates, TBHC is committed to providing quality patient care delivery and working with our physician and multidisciplinary partners to ensure positive patient outcomes. We believe,

"It's the place you want to be"

We believe that the provision of highly skilled and specialized nursing care is essential to the fulfillment of The Brooklyn Hospital Center's mission of quality in-patient care. Nursing accepts the responsibility for the provision of patient-centered, high quality and cost effective nursing care for all patients and their families.

We believe that continuity of nursing care is necessary for positive outcomes and each patient/family know which nurse is primarily responsible for their care during their shift and over the length of their stay. We believe that we are committed to quality and excellence in the provision of health care through the application of sound nursing principles, continuing education and expansion of those principles.

We believe that the nursing process is the primary means by which professional nurses can organize and communicate their knowledge for the purpose of providing quality patient care.

We believe that there is a need to recognize the value of each individual employee, and that each employee is responsible and accountable for their own actions for clinical development and for quality patient care within their own purview. We are a decentralized department and we aspire to the concepts of shared governance and autonomy for the professional nurse.

We believe that learning is a life-long process and that The Brooklyn Hospital Center supports health science education, so that nursing personnel are provided with the opportunity to obtain information to increase or augment their knowledge and skills.

We believe that the Department of Nursing, Medical Staff and other disciplines involved in patient therapy and services should work as partners collaboratively to plan, provide, and evaluate the patient care provided and aspire to an orientation of holistic, patient focused wellness model of care through the age span continuum.

Nursing Education is considered an integral and vital part of nursing competence at The Brooklyn Hospital Center. We provide in-house educational offerings as well as BCLS, ACLS, PALS and NRP classes. The Brooklyn Hospital Center , Department of Nursing is also an approved provider of continuing education by the New York State Nurses Association's Council on Continuing Education and offers continuing education units (CEU's) for its nursing programs. Certifications in specialty areas are greatly encouraged for all Registered Professional Nurses.

We provide services across the life spectrum, from birth to geriatric stages, in our Ambulatory, Intensive Cares, Maternity, Children and Nursery units, Perioperative, Emergency Services and specialized care centers including Oncology, Infectious Diseases, Acute Rehab, medically managed Detoxification and Hemodialysis units.
